Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies said it has partnered with Mainstay Fuel Technologies to offer a back-of-cab compressed natural-gas system for heavy-duty trucks.

Through the partnership the companies will incorporate Quantum’s 21-inch diameter tanks with Mainstay’s module designs.

The joint CNG system, the Quantum-Mainstay 21-inch back-of-cab-system, is based on Mainstay’s existing module design and will use anywhere from one to five of Quantum’s 21 inch Q-Lite tanks.

The alliance also will provide the companies with additional spare parts distribution and service center locations, with Quantum located in Lake Forest, California, and Mainstay in Greer, South Carolina.

“We believe that success within this industry will require alliances and cooperation to provide the market with a broad-based product offering and the necessary service and technical support on both the East and West coasts,” Brian Olson, Quantum’s president, said in a statement.

“Both organizations are like-minded in terms of engineering and design capabilities, and we look forward to teaming up resources to offer the industry lighter-weight CNG solutions for various truck applications,” Olson said.

As part of the alliance, the companies said they will collaborate on business development and new designs.
