Bulk carrier Quality Distribution Inc. reported a fourth-quarter profit of $2.6 million, reversing a $22.8 million loss in the same period a year earlier.

Per share, the company earned 9 cents, compared with a loss of 85 cents in the prior year’s quarter.

Revenue increased 8% to $243.2 million.

CEO Gary Enzor said the improved results were driven by growth in Quality’s chemical and intermodal businesses.

He also cited an increase in driver recruiting and retention efforts that resulted in higher driver counts.

Quality, based in Tampa, Florida, ranks No. 34 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
