Profits Revive Trucking Stocks

trong third-quarter earnings and solid prospects for the final three months of the year have generated a rebound in trucking stocks, many of which had fallen during the middle of 2005.

Fleet executives might still worry about high fuel prices, a shortage of drivers and the new 2007 engines, but from July through September those at larger carriers also managed to turn a profit by getting fuel surcharges to stick and guarding progress that has recently been made in basic freight rates.

The industry’s two main sectors — truckload and less-than-truckload — both saw carriers issue reports that impressed investors.
