Beltway Not In Cards For Pittsburgh Under New State Transportation Plan

Pittsburgh lawmakers have been lobbying for a beltway around the city for two years, but will have to continue those efforts after two recently-released transportation plans once again did not include one, the Associated Press reported Monday.

Neither the Pennsylvania Transportation Department's 12-year, $36.6-billion plan nor the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commissions 25-year plan include a beltway tied to the interstate system, the article said. State and local officials have instead focused on a city-wide mass-transit system and improvements to currently existing roads, the AP report said. Transport Topics
