PHMSA Head to Leave Agency, Move to FAA

Timothy Butters, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s acting administrator, is scheduled to leave the agency June 8.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, Butters will shift to the Federal Aviation Administration, where he will be a senior adviser. Stacy Cummings, the agency’s interim executive director, will take over for Butters, the department said. Butters was appointed deputy administrator in 2010 and became acting administrator last year.

Last month, the White House nominated Marie Therese Dominguez, principal deputy assistant secretary of the Army for Civil Works, to take over PHMSA. A hearing on her confirmation has yet to be scheduled by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.
