Personal Spending Jumps 0.8%

Consumer personal spending rose 0.8% in May, the Commerce Department said Friday.

The increase was the biggest since November, Commerce said.

Incomes rose 1.9%, the biggest in almost three years.

The spending increase topped economists’ forecasts of a 0.7% gain, Bloomberg reported.

An increase in consumer spending could increase demand for new factory goods and the trucking shipments that get them to stores.
