Personal Spending Increases for Fifth Month

Consumer personal spending rose in February for the fifth straight month, the Commerce Department said Monday.

The 0.3% spending increase, which matched economists’ forecasts, followed a 0.4% gain in January, Bloomberg reported.

Personal incomes were unchanged, Commerce said.

An increase in consumer spending could increase demand for new factory goods and the trucking shipments that get them to stores.
