Package-Delivery Firms Say They Are Trimming Delivery Times
hree big package-delivery firms said this week they have trimmed delivery times and improved performance for their customers.
UPS Inc. said it reduced the time for ground packages to travel in major cities around the country.
It said it made the “most significant upgrade ever to its U.S. ground package delivery network,” accelerating the delivery of more than a half-million packages nationwide by a day or more.
FedEx Corp. said it has upgraded its FedEx Global Trade Manager system, a free online resource designed to help small- and medium-sized businesses reduce the complexities of shipping internationally, and FedEx Ship Manager, an online shipping tool.
The upgrade will give customers access to customs documents and regulatory advisories for more than 200 countries, up from 42, and allow customers to look up import and export requirements for each country.
DHL said it launched of a new route optimization initiative to help its facilities map optimum delivery routes, streamline sorting processes, and balance daily loads more efficiently.
When complete, the program will provide company operations nationwide with greater operational efficiencies, the company said.
The program will be implemented in about 340 U.S. facilities over the next nine months and will “decrease drive time, route length and fuel consumption, enable more rapid processing of shipments and increase efficiency,” DHL said.
UPS is ranked No. 1, FedEx is No. 2 and DHL Americas is No. 4 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
