ransportation and third-party logistics firm Pacer International said Thursday it has named John Hickerson Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pacer Transport, the company’s truck services unit.

Hickerson has nearly 30 years of experience in intermodal and trucking management operations, Pacer said in a statement.

He spent 22 years with the Con-Way family of companies, including as CEO of Con-Way Southern Express, and was most recently as vice president of domestic intermodal marketing and sales for Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad.

The appointment “signals Pacer's strategic intent to continue growing the size and scope of its various trucking operations as part of the company's overall modal and intermodal capabilities,” said Don Orris, Pacer International’s chairman and CEO.

Pacer Transport’s President Russ Oldson will remain in that role and be responsible for day-to-day operations. He will report to Hickerson, the company said.

Pacer International is ranked No. 16 the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian trucking companies.
