Ontario and Quebec have agreed to harmonize the weights and dimensions for several tractor-trailer combinations that commonly operate between the two provinces.
The Aug. 30 agreement, signed by Ontario Transportation Minister David Turnbull and Quebec Transportation Minister Guy Chevrette, ends seven years of negotiations involving both governments and trucking associations from both provinces.
In addition to specifying tractor and trailer sizes and weights, the agreement establishes a system of permits to be used for 10 years from the implementation date.
