Omnitracs Approved for Continued Use in Hauling for Defense Department

Omnitracs said it has received a government approval that enables fleets using its satellite-based telematics systems to continue carrying ammunition, explosives and other sensitive cargo for the U.S. Department of Defense and other agencies.

The technology supplier said the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command has determined that Omnitracs’ network architecture meets the requirements for the Defense Transportation Tracking System, which monitors commercial carriers transporting sensitive materials within the United States for DOD.

The requirements for DOD compliance are redundant hardware and satellite infrastructure and architecture, a separate contingency network operations center site and the availability of technical staff at all times, Omnitracs said in the Sept. 29 announcement.

The company said it has been supporting DTTS for more than 25 years.
