Crude oil rose to a five-week high Thursday, topping $76 a barrel and approaching the all-time high set in late July, Bloomberg reported.

Oil futures traded as high as $76.45 a barrel in pre-market trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange, over concerns over terrorist threats in Nigeria, Africa’s biggest oil producer, Bloomberg said.

The record Nymex closing price was $78.21 a barrel, set on July 31.
