Obama Taps Md. Transportation Chief for DOT Deputy Secretary

President Obama will nominate John Porcari, Maryland Transportation Secretary as deputy secretary of the Department of Transportation, the No. 2 DOT job, the White House said.

Porcari is in his second stint overseeing highway, transit, aviation and maritime transportation in Maryland, as well as motor vehicle registration, the White House said on its Web site.

Porcari also serves in his current post as chairman of the agency that operates Maryland’s bridges and tunnels.

Porcari helped to begin construction of Maryland’s InterCounty Connector, as well as the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, which carries Interstate 95 over the Potomac River to Virginia, the White House said.
