NTSB Bans Employee Cell Phone Use While Driving

The National Transportation Safety Board has instituted a policy banning texting and talking on cell phones by its employees while they are working, the Associated Press reported.

Chairman Deborah Hersman announced the ban at the ceremony at which she was sworn in as chairman of the agency. President Obama nominated Hersman, a five-year member of the board, as chairman earlier this year.

Hersman told employees that the agency ought to follow the same safety practices it recommends.

Under the policy, the NTSB’s 400 employees, as well as board members, will not be allowed to talk or text on cell phones while driving during work hours or while using government-issued phones during non-work hours.
