INDIANAPOLIS — Charles “Mike” White of Walmart Transportation is not one to rest on his laurels.
The Grand Champion of the 2016 National Truck Driving Championships showed he is as hungry as ever by winning Indiana’s Sleeper Berth class and capturing Grand Champion honors June 8 to solidify his status as one of the safe-driving greats of the truck driving industry.
Since winning a national title, White, the low-key driver with more than four decades of professional experience, has remained true to his craft.
He has devoted many weekends to practice, repeating myriad maneuvers on simulated courses, such as parallel parking and obstacle avoidance situations. He also memorized the industry’s regulatory handbook, the basis for the written exam portion of the state and national tournament.

Preview: Safety, style and family will be on display at the Indiana Truck Driving Championships, held June 7-8 at Lincoln College of Technology in Indianapolis. “I know that our drivers, every year, look forward to this. Not only just to show their skills and compete with the best of the best out of our member companies but to reacquaint themselves with old friends and meet new ones,” IMTA Membership Services Director Kellie Walsh said. “The trucking family in Indiana is a close group, and this allows them to really grow that part of their profession.”

John Griswold of XPO Logistics took home the title of Grand Champion at the Indiana Truck Driving Championships in 2018. Griswold competed in the Sleeper Berth division. Last year was Griswold's second consecutive year taking home first in the Sleeper Berth category. He placed No. 10 at the national competition in 2018.
