NTDC, SuperTech Winners Honored

PHILADELPHIA — Wal-Mart’s Ronald Emenheiser and FedEx Freight’s Eric Vos, the winners of the National Truck Driving Championships and TMC SuperTech National Technician Skills Competition, respectively, were honored Oct. 18 byAmerican Trucking Associations as part of the annual Management Conference & Exhibition here.

Emenheiser, a Wal-Mart Transportation driver based in Yorkana, Pennsylvania, won the 2015 Bendix National Truck Driving Championships in August in St. Louis. Emenheiser, who was competiting at NTDC for the second time, has been a professional truck driver for more than 25 years.

Vos won the Technology and Maintenance Council SuperTech competition in September in Orlando, Florida. Vos, who works in Boise, has 11 years of experience with FedEx Freight and earned second-place finishes at SuperTech in 2010, 2013 and 2014.

“Throughout the country, the trucking industry is full of individuals who exhibit a commitment to safety and professionalism each day, but there are certain individuals who have surpassed the call of duty in demonstrating that commitment,” ATA President Bill Graves said.

The ATA National Truck Driver of the Year was also announced: James Hylan Grise, a Wal-Mart Transportation driver from Lewisburg, Kentucky. Grise has been a professional truck driver for more than 42 years and has driven more than 4 million accident-free miles. He previously competed at the NTDC in 2005, 2011 and 2012.



ATA also honored three carriers for their safety programs. The small fleet — under 25 million miles — winner was Kenco Transportation of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The midsize fleet — between 25 million and 100 million miles — winner was Pitt-Ohio of Pittsburgh. The large fleet winner was Roehl Transport Inc. of Marshfield, Wisconsin.
