CINCINNATI — The National Private Truck Council honored four drivers for a lifetime of safely delivering goods on the nation’s highways at the Annual Education Management Conference and Exhibition here April 27.

Inducted into the NPTC Driver Hall of Fame were: William Brawley of Yadkinville, North Carolina, a driver for Unifi Manufacturing Inc.; Stephen Edwards of Phoenix, a driver for Contract Transportation Services and Sherwin Williams Co.; Mark Hannon of Jamestown, New York, a driver for Upstate Niagara Cooperative Inc.; and Leon Turner of Batesville, Indiana, a driver for Batesville Logistics Inc.

Brawley said he is meticulous about equipment and maintains constant awareness while driving on winding two-lane roads throughout Virginia and the Carolinas.

Edwards, who learned to drive by slipping behind the wheel of his father’s truck, said he tries to keep calm and not be in a hurry as he makes nighttime deliveries of paint and other materials.

Hannon, who delivers milk in one of the snowiest regions of the country, said patience is the key to making his rounds safely.

Turner said he is “conscious” of safety every time he gets behind the wheel and pays particular attention to what other drivers are doing as he delivers goods for Batesville Casket Co.
