Norfolk Southern’s Quarterly Income Rises

astern freight rail line Norfolk Southern Corp. reported Wednesday its third-quarter net income rose 38% to $416 million or $1.02 a share from $301 million or 73 cents in 2005.

Railway operating revenues rose 11% to $2.4 billion, NS said in a statement.

The rail carrier’s intermodal revenue rose 9% to $515 million, while coal revenues rose 9% to $595 million.
