astern freight rail line Norfolk Southern Corp. reported Wednesday it earned $305 million or 72 cents a share in the first quarter, up 57% from $194 million or 47 cents a year earlier.
Railway operating revenues rose 17% to $2.3 billion and were the highest for any quarter in its history, NS said.
Intermodal revenue also set a first-quarter revenue, rising 14% to $466 million on higher revenue and traffic volume, the railroad said.
