Norfolk Southern’s 3Q Profit Jumps 35%

Norfolk Southern Corp.’s third-quarter profit jumped 35%, the railroad said late Tuesday.

The Eastern freight rail line earned $520 million, or $1.37 per share, compared with $386 million, or 97 cents, a year ago.

Revenue rose 23% to $2.89 billion, NS said in a statement.

Despite flat volumes, intermodal revenue gained 16% to $560 million.
