NHTSA Reports Heavy-Duty Truck Recalls
In the latest roundup of recalls announced for September, NHTSA said one Freightliner recall covered 10,460 heavy trucks, buses, utility vans and recreational vehicles. NHSTA said a sensor in the anti-lock braking system needed to be reset for commercial vehicles and replaced on passenger vehicles. Owners are to be notified during December.
Another recent Freightliner recall, in which owners were notified starting Oct. 11, covered 5,032 vehicles to replace electronic accelerator pedal to guard against stuck throttles.
A General Motors recall of 30,000 buses, medium-duty trucks and tractors will need to have their ABS electronic control units replaced. Owners of school buses were to be notified in October, owners of the trucks would be notified later as parts become available, NHTSA said.
Freightliner recalled 22,499 heavy-duty trucks for inspection and possible repair of the upper steering column, and 51,000 buses and heavy-duty trucks to replace the anti-lock brake’s ECU. It also recalled 45,000 heavy-duty trucks over issues related to tie rod ends. The first two recalls were set for owner notifications to begin in late August and the last for October.
For that same reason, to replace the ABS ECU, Volvo recalled 18,362 buses and heavy-duty trucks but was to begin notifications during November.
