NHTSA Announces Drunk Driving Crackdown

he National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is beginning a new campaign to crack down on drunk driving, NHTSA said Wednesday in a release.

Law enforcement agencies nationwide will participate in the initiative, “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest,” which will run through Labor Day.

NHTSA also said it is spending $11 million on advertising related to the crack down, making it the biggest media campaign to combat drunk driving.



According to NHTSA figures released Wednesday, there were 16,885 alcohol-related traffic fatalities in the United States in 2005.
