National Highway and Traffic Safety Administrator David Strickland is resigning from his post, the U.S. Department of Transportation confirmed Dec. 12.

Strickland is the Obama administration’s second top transportation official to announce he’s leaving. On Dec. 11, DOT Deputy Secretary John Porcari said he plans to resign at the end of the month.

Strickland will be replaced in the interim by David Friedman, NHTSA’s deputy administrator, according to DOT.

Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced this week that Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez will replace Porcari as the interim deputy secretary.
