New York State Manufacturing Index Increases in September

anufacturing growth increased in New York state in September, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York reported Friday.

The regional Fed’s “Empire State index” rose to a reading of 13.8 from August’s revised reading of 11. Readings above zero indicate expansion.

Economists’ had expected the level to rise to 13.5.

Lower energy prices, which have reduced costs for manufacturers, contributed to the rise, Bloomberg said. The falling energy costs could also encourage continuing consumer demand.

Manufacturing is one of trucking’s largest and most important customers.
