C Stone Group, a risk-management consulting company, said it has developed a new software program that allows shippers to better manage fuel surcharges.

Pete Anderson, chief executive officer of the Des Moines, Iowa, company, said the software helps shippers track fuel surcharges based on the weekly gasoline and diesel fuel update from the Department of Energy.

“We developed this software because many of our customers did not have an adequate system for projecting their surcharge expenses based on the [DOE] index,” Anderson told Transport Topics.

Many shippers have seen fuel surcharges rise by 25% since 2002 as a result of rising energy prices, Anderson said.
