New Home Sales Fall 9.9% in August

.S. new home sales fell 9.9% in August from a record high rate the previous month, the Commerce Department reported Tuesday.

The decline, the biggest since November, brought new sales to a 1.237 million annual rate in August from a revised 1.373 million in July, Commerce said.

Rising home sales can mean more business for flatbed trucking companies that haul building materials and dry van freight that haul household appliances and furniture.

ew home sales fell in all four regions of the country, dropping 18% in the West, 11% in the Midwest, 22% in the Northeast and 2.2% in the South.

ew home sales account for about 15% of U.S. residential real estate sales.
