NavStar to Work With Trinity Noble

NavStar Technologies, a start-up company making electronic onboard recorders, has signed an agreement with Trinity Noble to add cellphone detection to its hardware and services.

NavStar said automatic detection with a cellphone eliminates the need for a driver to reach for one. Field trials with Trinity Noble will begin in the second quarter of next year.

NavStar said research from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration shows that reaching for a hand-held cellphone while driving makes a commercial truck three times more likely to be involved in a crash, while dialing a hand-held phone increases that risk six times.

The company also said it received $2.4 million from an investment group to complete development of its EOBR product.
