NEW ORLEANS — Navistar Inc. claimed the 2014 heavy- and medium-duty commercial Truck of the Year awards here Jan. 26 during the American Truck Dealers annual convention.

Navistar’s International ProStar with the Cummins ISX15 engine with selective catalytic reduction won in the heavy-duty category, and International TerraStar 4x4 earned the medium-duty award.

“It is an honor to be recognized this year with both the 2014 ATD Heavy-Duty and Medium-Duty Commercial Truck of the Year titles,” said Bill Kozek, Navistar’s president of North America Truck and Parts. “Being recognized in both these categories proves International is back with great product offerings.”

A panel of trucking journalists judged the vehicles in October in Orlando, Fla., based on innovation, design, safety and driver satisfaction.

Navistar said the International ProStar, which was re-introduced in December 2012 with SCR, offers aerodynamic innovations for improved fuel economy. It is offered in ratings up to 550 horsepower and 1,850 pound-feet of torque.

ATD Convention Chairman Steve Parker, who announced the winners, said the judges were impressed with the maneuverability, easy shifting and performance of the big-bore engine.

Navistar said the TerraStar offers high strength, low-allow frame rails at 80,000 pounds per square inch. It comes with a 300 hp, 660 pound-feet torque, 6.4 liter MaxxForce 7 engine.

Extended coverage of ATD’s convention will be in the Feb. 3 issue of Transport Topics.
