avistar International Corp. said it missed its Tuesday deadline for an annual U.S. regulatory filing because the company is still talking to outside auditors.

The company said in a statement that cannot determine when it will be able to make its 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Navistar’s fiscal year ended Oct. 31.

Navistar is the parent company of International Truck and Engine Corp.

Navistar said a “key member” of its audit team at accounting firm Deloitte and Touche “went on an unexpected, extended medical leave” in mid-December. A new audit team from Deloitte is working to complete the audit for fiscal 2005, the company said.

Navistar late last year postponed release of final results for 2004 because of an internal audit concerning the sale of loans at its finance division. (Click here for previous coverage.)

The company said it did not expect its financing plans this year to be affected by the filing delay.
