Navistar Plans Diesel Engine Plant in China

A Navistar International Corp. affiliate and a Chinese firm have signed a joint venture agreement to develop, build and market advanced commercial diesel engines in China.

The affiliate of NC2 — a joint venture between Navistar and Caterpillar Inc. — also signed a joint venture agreement with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co. Ltd. (JAC) to develop, build and market advanced commercial vehicles in China.

The group plans to build a manufacturing facility in Anhui Province, China, to produce JAC and Navistar-designed MaxxForce brand diesel engines.

The joint venture will build vehicles at an existing 800,000 square foot JAC manufacturing facility dedicated to medium and heavy-duty trucks.

The deal is pending approval by the necessary Chinese Government authorities, Navistar said in a statement.
