Navistar Makes Natural Gas Push at MATS

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Navistar Inc. made a big push for natural gas at the Mid America Trucking Show, being held here this week.

The truck and engine manufacturer brought dealers and customers to a panel discussion Wednesday about natural gas with investor T. Boone Pickens, and executives of Clean Energy Fuels Corp., Pilot Flying J, and Chesapeake Energy.

James Hebe, Navistar senior vice president, North American Sales, told reporters that the company would offer Cummins’ 8.9-liter natural gas engine, and said the company was working on its own 13-liter gas engine.

He also offered an aggressive defense of Navistar’s 13-liter diesel engine, declaring that its overall “fluid efficiency” makes it more competitive than other company’s engines.
