National Private Truck Council Honors Five at Conference

CINCINNATI — The National Private Truck Council honored five individuals and one company for their contributions to the trucking industry and other professionals involved in managing corporate-owned truck fleets.

The professional leadership awards were presented at the NPTC annual education management conference and exhibition here April 25.

Bedford Monday, a zone warehouse manager for Schwans Consumer Brands, was recognized as private fleet executive of the year. Monday overseees deliveries to retail grocery outlets from Maryland to Georgia as well as a warehouse and shuttle operations at four master depot locations for Schwans. Monday previously worked at Toys R Us in Houston and spent 19 years at UPS Inc., where he started out as a loader in 1981.

“Never quit learning,” Monday said in accepting his award.



Ed Porter Jr., senior director of transportation services for Upstate Niagara Cooperative in Buffalo, New York, was recognized as private fleet member of the year. Porter is slated to retire May 6 after a 45-year career in transportation. NPTC President Gary Petty described Porter as a “straight shooter” and someone who “shares what he knows.” At Upstate Niagara, Petty said Porter operated “one of the most successful fleets in one of the most difficult environments.”

Other award recipients included:

Cameron Hafer of Trans Papa Logistics in Louisville, Kentucky, as private fleet safety professional of the year.

Meghan Chan of Mondelez International in Phoenix for excellence in membership.

J.J. Keller & Associates, Neenah, Wisconsin, as affiliate member of the year.

NPTC’s highest honor, the Dan P. Smith Life Achievement Award was presented to Harry Haney III, an executive at Kraft Foods for 30 years and who now is associate director of Loyola University Chicago’s Supply & Value Chain Center.
