anadian firm Mullen Group Income Fund said late Tuesday it had closed three previously announced acquisitions of companies in western Canada. Terms were not disclosed.

The largest was the purchase of Spearing Service Ltd., a private company based in Oxbow, Saskatchewan, which has crude oil and other operations.

In addition to trucking, Mullen has oilfield and gas operations.

Mullen also acquired Burnell Contractors Ltd., a Calgary, Alberta, company that provides specialized transportation services to the energy, pipeline, petrochemical and construction industries.

The third was the purchase of C. Steen Trucking Ltd., a flatbed carrier based in Edmonton, Alberta. C. Steen will continue to operate from its Edmonton facility as a division of Payne Transportation, Mullen said.

"The acquisition of C. Steen capitalizes on the opportunities we see in trucking and is consistent with our strategy of expanding our trucking segment," said Stephen Lockwood, Mullen’s president and co-chief executive officer.

Mullen is ranked No. 63 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian trucking companies.
