he University of Michigan's final consumer sentiment index for June rose for the first time this year, the university said Friday.
The index jumped to 96 from a final reading of 86.9 in May. June’s level was originally reported at 94.8 two weeks ago.
The final number was above the median 94.6 level analysts had projected, Bloomberg reported.
The consumer expectations index, based on optimism about the next one to five years, rose to 85, from 73 in May.
he current conditions index, which reflects Americans' perceptions of their financial situation and whether it's a good time to make big purchases, rose to 113.2, the highest since November 2000, from 104.9 in May.
The index is based on a phone survey of about 500 households.
