March Durable Goods Orders Jump 6.1%

urable goods orders jumped 6.1% in March from February, the Commerce Department said Wednesday.

Orders of goods made to last at least three years rose to $230.6 billion, Commerce said. That followed a revised 3.4% rise in February that was originally reported as a 2.7% gain.

xcluding transportation orders, March durables orders rose 2.8%.



The overall increase far exceeded analysts’ forecasts of a 1.8% rise, Bloomberg reported.

Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
