ASHINGTON — A coalition of truck makers, trailer manufacturers and government officials here showed aerodynamic equipment for trucks and trailers that resulted from a two-year partnership of four major truck makers and the Department of Energy to develop more aerodynamic heavy trucks.

“Since new clean diesel fuel came online nationwide in October, heavy-duty trucks are running cleaner than ever before. Add aerodynamic improvements to the equation and the nation’s fleet of linehaul trucks could save nearly a billion gallons of fuel per year,” Truck Manufacturers Association President Bob Clarke said at the Nov. 14 event.

International Truck and Engine said it partnered with Freightliner LLC, Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks to develop several types of drag-reducing technology.
