Lundberg: Average Price of Regular Gasoline Rises 5 Cents to $1.91
he national average retail price for regular gasoline on Friday was $1.91 per gallon, up 5.32 cents during the past two weeks, according to the Lundberg Survey of 8,000 stations nationwide.
Analyst Trilby Lundberg, who publishes the survey, said most of the increase was related to Hurricane Ivan, the Associated Press reported. The storm caused damage to petroleum facilities in the Gulf of Mexico and caused refinery shutdowns and delays of shipments ahead of the storm, the Associated Press reported.
The trucking industry burns an estimated 290 million gallons of gasoline each week. Pump prices had been sliding since reaching a peak of $2.10 on May 21, Lundberg said.
At $2.26 per gallon, Honolulu saw the highest average price for self-serve regular unleaded gas. Norfolk, Va., saw the lowest price at $1.76 per gallon.
Lundberg said she expected gasoline prices to stabilize shortly, or even slip, AP said.
