Participants at the Sept. 24-27 meeting, sponsored by the Council of Logistics Management in New Orleans, are evaluating new ideas about speed, fulfillment and customer satisfaction in light of the explosion of electronic commerce.

Because of the Internet, shippers have begun to approach processing orders and managing their supply chains differently. Those changes have come about because of customer demand and because there are new opportunities to save money through greater efficiency.

That process has not always been smooth. Shippers have to be able to handle customer orders placed over the Internet and make sure they have the right amount of inventory to deliver products to customers.
