Letter to the Editor: Effects of Hours Rule

ith all of the major trucking companies raising their rates to make up for the pay loss that the drivers will [otherwise] have, the cost to the shippers is going to have to go up as well. This should translate into better rates for the independents as well.

It will make it even harder to get trucks to move the loads because of the restrictions.

This will mean that plant production deliveries and just-in-time operations could start to run behind and cause a cut in production, which will translate into a loss of hours for the plant workers.

The snowball effect could potentially cause the entire industry and the national economy to slow down until the trucking industry can make the necessary adjustments to allow for the new hours rules.
