Landstar System said Thursday it has purchased two Michigan-based supply chain transportation firms that focus on transportation technology systems.

Detroit-based Premier Logistics provides freight management services through its proprietary Web-based software.  Scott Taylor will remain its president.

A3 Integration, Ann Arbor, Mich., provides Web-based transportation and supply chain management technologies to optimize the complete order-to-cash process, Landstar said.

Terms of the deal were not released.

“These two technology-based acquisitions immediately position Landstar as a premier supply chain solutions provider for small and large customers alike in a software-as-a-service environment,” said Landstar Chief Executive Officer Henry Gerkens.

“Additionally, our third-party capacity should benefit from increased loading opportunities created through this new service offering,” he said in a statement.

Both companies will operate as separate subsidiaries of Landstar Supply Chain Solutions, a newly formed Landstar company to be headed by Landstar Global Logistics President Jim Handoush.

Landstar System is ranked No. 11 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
