LaHood Says DOT Working to Expedite Stimulus Projects

The Department of Transportation is moving quickly to use economic stimulus funds to improve infrastructure, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said Tuesday.

At a meeting of the National League of Cities in Washington, LaHood said that DOT is working to get funds to state departments and transit agencies, and that many construction projects will begin soon.

“You’ll see roads repaved, interchanges improved, bus and rail systems repaired, upgraded, and expanded,” LaHood said in a statement.

LaHood told the local government officials that in addition to the funding being allocated, DOT will soon allocate discretionary funds for transportation projects.
