L.A. Port Volume Rises in May

The Port of Los Angeles said its May import cargo volume rose 5.5% from a year ago, to almost 361,000 20-foot equivalent units.

Export volume rose 14.7% to 184,000 TEUs, and the volume of empty containers fell 20.9% to about 148,000 TEUs, the port said late Tuesday.

Total monthly volume was close to 693,000 TEUs, about half a percentage point higher than a year ago.

For the first five months of this year, the port’s  cargo volume increased 6.6%, to 3.13 million TEUs, the port said.
