Knight’s First-Quarter Income Improves

Truckload carrier Knight Transportation’s first-quarter profit rose to $11.7 million, or 14 cents a share, from $11.4 million, or 13 cents, a year ago.

Revenue slipped to $148.7 million, from $176.4 million, the company said late Wednesday. Revenue excluding fuel surcharges fell 5.8% to $133.1 million.

“Our refrigerated truckload and brokerage businesses continued to complement our core dry van truckload business, while standing on their own from the standpoint of profitability and returns,” Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Knight said in a statement.

Knight is ranked No. 38 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
