Kentucky Legislature Calls for Ton-Mile Tax Study

Kentucky’s ton-mile and usage taxes on trucking will come under scrutiny because of a legislative resolution.

The resolution, sent to Gov. Paul Patton March 9, calls for the Interim Joint Committee on Appropriations and Revenue to study the “elimination or modification” of the weight-distance and usage taxes, with instructions to replace the revenues if the taxes are wiped out or reduced.

Kentucky Motor Transport Association President Ned Sheehy said the resolution was a victory for trucking.
