Kentucky Legislators Vote Unanimously to Protect Truckers

Kentucky lawmakers have passed a bill that would protect truckers from having to assume all liability for accidents regardless of whether they are to blame.

The anti-indemnification bill has been sent to Gov. Steve Beshear (D), who is expected to sign the measure, said Jamie Fiepke, president of the Kentucky Motor Transport Association.

“We don’t anticipate any problems,” Fiepke said. “It passed with no opposition in both chambers.”

All the surrounding states, save Ohio, have passed the protection for truckers, he added.

The bill was sent to the governor March 26 after the House passed it. The Senate passed the measure Feb. 4.
