Kansas City Southern’s Fourth-Quarter Profit Improves

Kansas City Southern railroad said Tuesday it earned $35.7 million or 41 cents a share in the fourth quarter, compared with earnings of $2.3 million or 3 cents a year earlier.The previous fourth quarter included adjustments that lowered its profit, the rail line said in a statement. This year’s profits were led by coal hauling, it said.Revenue rose 14% to a record $442.4 million over the previous fourth quarter. Operating income rose to $88.2 million from $47.7 million, also a record, KCS said.For the full year, KCS earned $89.4 million or $1.08 per share, up from $12.2 million or 16 cents in 2005.
