Kansas City Southern’s 3Q Income Falls

Kansas City Southern’s third-quarter income fell to $91 million, or 83 cents a share, from $100 million, or 91 cents, a year ago.

The railroad’s revenue increased 6% to $577 million, the company said Friday.

Carload volumes increased 7%. Revenue grew in four out of six commodity groups, led by a 31% gain in automotive and a 25% increase in intermodal.

Revenue for the energy group, which includes coal, dipped 3%.
