Kansas City Southern’s 2Q Profit Improves

Kansas City Southern’s second-quarter earnings rose to $120 million, or $1.09 a share, from $71 million, or 64 cents, a year ago.

The railroad’s revenue increased 2% to $545 million, the company said Tuesday.

Carload volumes increased 4%. Revenue grew in three out of six commodity groups, led by a 23% gain in intermodal and a 15% increase in automotive.

Revenue for the energy group, which includes coal, dipped 12%.
