Kansas City Southern Posts Higher 1Q Profit

Kansas City Southern on Tuesday reported its first-quarter earnings rose to $75 million, or 68 cents a share, from $64 million, or 58 cents, the previous year.

The railroad’s revenue increased 12% to a record $548 million, the company said in a statement.

Carload volumes increased 7%. Revenue grew in five out of six commodity groups, led by a 26% gain in intermodal and a 21% increase in automotive. Revenue for the energy group, which includes coal, dipped 1%.
