Jobless Claims Rose Last Week

Initial jobless claims rose last week from a four-year low, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Claims gained 13,000 for the week ended Saturday to 380,000, the highest since late January, Labor said.

Economists had forecast 355,000 new claims, Bloomberg reported. Claims for the previous week were revised to 367,000, from 357,000.

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, rose to 368,500, from 364,250.



Continuing jobless claims for the previous week ended March 31 fell by 34,000, to 3.22 million.
